The toast we get out of this machine is generally okay, sporadically one side is more toasted than the other. The problem is that the two sides can't be operated independently. The slots on the right pop with the slots on the left. This isn't very flexible when you're hosting a buffet-style brunch or making breakfast (e.g. eggs over-easy) serially for your kids.One of the other reviewers thought the right-side slots were broken, I think they were just running into this rather limited design.
BTW - I've seen cheaper Krups toasters with fully independent pairs of slots.

This toaster has cool, rounded lines and a sandblasted chrome finish that are Retro-inspired; however, its features are decidedly modern day. Made just for bigger families, the Toastsupreme has four extra wide and deep slots so it can accommodate any bread, from wheat toast to hamburger buns to bagels. Guides on either side of each slot center themselves around bread for more even toasting. An electronic browning control lets you choose among six different shades of toasting and a handy stop button ejects bread in a hurry if you?ve overestimated its toasting time. Breads pop up high due to the extra-tall lift, allowing you to grab your toast without burning tender fingers. A defrost function makes it easier to prepare frozen bagels or waffles in the morning and a reheat button warms up forgotten bread to a comfortable eating temperature. A removable crumb tray under the appliance makes it easy to clean this toaster out.
