Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Krups GVX2-12 Burr Grinder, Black and SilverCustomer Review: Short lifespan Summary: 2 StarsOkay, so you just can't help getting coffee on the counter with all that static. That didn't bother me too much over the course a full ten months and one week of its decent performance. The little button you turn it on with collapsed inside and you can't get into the unit to put it back. It's still under warranty, so I can drive to and from the nearest service center...just less than 65 miles (2 times). There are all of four authorized service centers in California! Wow, that is service! Or I can box it up, take it to the post office, pay to mail it, wait a year or two and hope I see it again. But...I guess I have to buy another grinder if I want coffee before spring. Save your money for something with a five star review.
Customer Review: Did not last that long Summary: 2 StarsThis grinder was OK in producing an even grind. Unfortunately it often jammed and ocassionally stopped working, even though I would not run it for more than a minute. (Maybe it overheated?) Half the time it would not start at all. Finally it refused to work at all when you pushed the button.
The last time my husband tried to make coffee he pushed the button hard to get it to go and the button fell into the grinder. I think a 4 year-old grinder that wasn't used more than twice a month shouldn't have fallen apart like this.
Customer Review: Krups GVX1 - on switch often fails Summary: 2 StarsI wish I could give a strong recommendation for this grinder but it has given me a few problems.
Problem 1:The worst is the fact that when I press the on button it often fails to come on. There is a switch that the lid to the bean hopper must depress before the on button works. So I often have to fiddle with the lid, taking it on and off several times or pressing down on it on the right side where the switch is located that it must depress. Either I got a lemon or Krups has a sorry design for this product.
Problem 2: When I called Krups about this problem they told me that I MUST PAY SHIPPING to the authorized repair center to have it repaired. I asked if they would reimburse me if they found a problem and they said no. You pay shipping - it is in our warranty policy. (however they will pay to ship the repaired unit back to me .... I hope)
Problem 3: The lid to the container the grounds fall into is poorly designed. Grounds stick to it and if you are not very careful, it will fall down into the container when you try to remove it because you have only about a 1/8 in edge to grasp it by.
Problem 4: I have yet to figure out how to operate this grinder and remove the grounds without spilling them all over the counter. Grounds fall out of the hole in the back of the container and they fall off the lid when you remove it. Other reviewers have speculated that this is due the static electricity caused because the container is plastic. So plan on putting a tray or paper towel under it or just wipe off your counter every time you use it.
Not sure I would buy it again.
Customer Review: Burr Grinder Summary: 4 StarsGreat Item.
Only concern it the unit feels hot on the metal part when it is plugged in despite not being in use. Thus, I unplug it when not in use.
Customer Review: skip this one Summary: 1 StarsUsed it four times before it permanently quit on me; each time grinding about half a pound of coffee. Unlike other reviewers who claim that the grind was too coarse, my Burr was too fine in the high setting, and just like talcum powder in the fine setting. Save your money and look elsewhere.
